The Lying Game Season 1 Music

Last week, Ann Kline, The Lying Game‘s music supervisor, gave us a preview into the “darker and more mysterious” music in season 2.

But today we’re rewinding a tad and gushing over Ann’s favorite songs from last season. Remember when Ethan and Emma first kissed? And the first time you heard Laurel sing? Get the scoop on the tracks that played during those scenes — and add them to your playlist ASAP!

Check out this mix of Ann’s top tunes from season one:

In Episode 2 last season, there was a scene where Ethan was teaching Emma how to dance and we used “Was It” by Malbec. We choose it because it played really nicely with Emma’s innocence and the growing chemistry between Emma and Ethan.

Then there was Emma and Ethan’s first kiss at the Homecoming dance in Ep. 5. We played “Will You Be By Me” by Wallpaper Airplanes. We looked at a lot of songs for this scene, but this was chosen because it felt right and the lyrics really spoke to the fact that Ethan was all Emma had at that point and she really needed him. Plus, it referenced Ethan’s feelings about Emma, and how he felt torn between the twins but knew in his heart that Emma was the one for him.

In Episode 6, Ethan has Emma over for dinner, and it’s a beautiful, romantic night. “I Can’t Feel The Bottom” by Ash Koley is playing in the background and it’s the first really sexy song we played for them, and I think it worked great. I loved this song from the first time I heard it and was looking for a place to use it. When this scene came up and it was exactly what we were looking for! The lyrics and the music really speak to the scene.

I love every time Laurel’s band plays. It was such a stroke of luck to have such a talented actress and singer on the show. One of the first songs we heard her play was “Follow Your Heart”, and I just loved it from the first time I heard it — but it’s hard to pick a favorite!

We used a lot of Butterfly Boucher songs throughout the season. Butterfly Boucher’s music works so well in the show and so I have to mention her! She has a strong voice, which most of the girls in TLG have as well. At the same time, she also has a sense of mystery to her music and it always feel young and cool, just like TLG.

Who is your music obsession at the moment? Tell us in the comments!
